Thanks Stumpie. You said ...."I love how mellow you are as I am the complete opposite". Ah.... honesty. I can deal with honesty and respect you for sharing that. Here's some honesty for you: I used to be a real "cutthroat" in high school and had no tolerance for music or people I didn't like. I would talk back to my high school music teacher in class, as I thought he didn't know much about drums as myself. Maybe he didn't, but I got a lot of my value from making sure others knew "I had the ... Read More

Here's some honesty for you: I used to be a real "cutthroat" in high school and had no tolerance for music or people I didn't like. I would talk back to my high school music teacher in class, as I thought he didn't know much about drums as myself. Maybe he didn't, but I got a lot of my value from making sure others knew "I had the goods". I had some close relationships with people who thought similar to me about music, but very little patience for anyone/any thing else that was different. And I lived for/loved competitions where I could show off and smoke others. It's actually true. I can't even imagine feeling that now, although I know it was absolutely true back then! But in the following 20-30+ years I gradually changed/became spiritually based, had a family and raised 4 kids, and grew my love for God and people even more than my love for music. So I appreciate your comments, and wish you all the best. Nice forum for this sharing...
I have been playing drums for a long time and stumbled onto the site through internet surfing. What a goldmine. Scott explains soloing...which has always been a weak point of mine...in a practical and understandable way. His 6 stroke roll video has opened up a new world for me. That video as well as the paradiddle diddle video made these two basic rudiments understandable and practical in their application. No drum teacher I have had explained and showed me practical application the way Scott ... Read More

My playing has improved greatly.
Mark, you are too kind! thanks for your comments and the other emails. As I mentioned in that last email response I'm also available for Skype lessons as well and how they compare to live lessons (I trust you got it?) anyway glad I could help.
Hi. I've been playing drums for a couple of years now. I have an electic kit for practice at home and I play in a studio on an acoustic kit once a week with my band. I'm starting to upgrade my electric kit to mesh heads piece by piece and have discovered superior drummer software sounds great ! I noticed you have an electric kit too and was wondering if you know if there is a device I can buy which would be like the drum module that normally comes with an electric kit, but without any ... Hi Mark, thanks for the comment. No, I don't know of anything out there that doesn't already come with sounds in the first place. Anyone else out there know?
Hi just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. I started taking drum lesson at 10 and now i'm 56 and still playing. I came across you video's on drum solo's and was very impressed and want to learn more. I have two new drum solo video's on youtube. Feel free to watch them and please comment. Will be watching more of your lessons. Sincerely Gregg White8my
Gregory, looks like we are close to the same age. Thanks for the good words. I checked out the videos and liked them. Also, if you ever want, I offer more in depth critiques for a somewhat small fee on the shop page here on the site as well. All the best....
Hey there:) Seems like I already got a question to you.. quick explanation: I didn't have the possibility to play drums for quite a while, now since a few months I found myself at being asked more and more often to play as a studio drummer.. But I kind of feel a lack of timing in my drumming.. In other words: Do you have a few tips on how to get better in playing with my metronome? I've noticed that my main problem is the kick.. Somehow my right foot is always a bit late.. Thanks in ... Read More

Sure. I'd be happy to help. First, to zero in on the problem, I have a question. Is it a matter of bass drum technique (not being able to play quarter notes and eight notes at medium and fast speeds that match up to the metronome?) or is it just sometimes any random bass drum notes (even on "one") that you are finding don't always match up?
Awesome! Well, my technique isn't that great anymore but speed (unless it gets way too fast) is no problem. The only problem regarding my technique is that I'm struggling frequently with the timing of faster double kicks, for instance when I'm using the heel-toe or sliding technique. Single Kicks are in general no problem. But that's a matter of rehearsing those techniques I guess.. The main problem with timing, which is bothering me, is the lack of timing on some random notes ... Read More

I see. Well I have a video that might help get you started. It's a free one, so click on the home page to "view all previous updates" and select Update #6 from April 2014. It shows some things to get you started. Hope that helps. I do give Skype lessons as well if you ever wanted to get more into detail. Scott
That's a lovely video.. It's a pretty nice approach to playing the kick on time! Will spend some time on these exercices, thank you for your help! Maxim
